Farfetch: ‘Taking Over Australian Fashion Week’

Hello,

It has been a big week with the new Spring post final out there and presenting to the gorgeous, dynamic women who make up business Australia.

Farfetch, the fabulous international online fashion store, also approached me to collaborate by entering theÂ ‘Running Australian Fashion Week’ competition.

What would I do if I were in charge? Where would it be? Who would I showcase?

As you can imagine the tight timelines and my passion for style created hours of chaotic fun. So – let the circus begin.

Location and The Theme:Â ‘The Circus of Fashion’. The fashion world is a big theatrical show: from the catwalk shows, the production, the designers, the stars, the artists, the models, the entertainment, the attendees, the glitz, the dramas. In other words, the circus. What better place than to hold fashion week in a circus tent.

A large fashionable circus marquee erected on the lawns at the Botanical gardens in Sydney overlooking the wonderful harbour. The centre ‘ring’ is where the catwalk shows would be held, and the guests sitting around the ring with a ring master introducing every fashion show.
Part of the spectacle would be to have the dressing room exposed to the guests by division of a clear perspex/ glass wall. For at least half an hour prior to the show, the guests would be able to view the designers, stylists, events team at work preparing the models and show. Ten minutes prior to the start big velvet curtains are drawn blocking the view of last-minute preparations. This gives guests an insight into the mayhem (aka circus) behind the scenes.
Acrobatic and other theatrical circus acts would be part of the entertainment pre fashion shows.
Surrounding the outside of the tent, glamorous cocktail bars would be satisfying guests with fancy beverages and delicate bites. DJ’s playing groovy tunes.

The Designers:

With so many creative Australian designers it was hard to select who I would have showcase their fashions at Australian Fashion Week. Rather than listing the many, I came up with a short list of my favourite designers who I believe display unique talent and covered a broad section: flamboyant, edgy, sophisticated.

As I couldn’t place photos of every fashion label, some other designers who would showcase are:

The VIP’s:

There is no fashion show without the front row VIP’s invited to play with the media and boost the profile of fashion week. A variety of celebrities from actors, billionaires, reality TV stars, sports stars, bloggers, royalty, famous magazine editors and politicians to name a few are a part of the circus fun. Â I have picked a few women who I feel are confident with their individual style, and hence are a positive influence to women all over the world. They are also different from each other.

Julie Bishop;Â Australian minister for foreign affairs and deputy leader of the liberal party,Â Cate Blanchett;Â Actress, Â Anna Della Russo; Editor at large for Vogue Japan, Olivia Palermo;Â US model and socialite, Nicole Warne;Â Australian model and blogger for Gary Pepper Girl, Susanna Lau;Â UK blogger for Style Bubble.

What I Would Wear:

I loved this part. I chose four outfits to attend several fashion shows and night events for fashion week. All are from Farfetch.

These seriously funky silk flare trousers from Rosie Assoulin with this gold one shoulder top from Lanvin Â is an outfit I would wear to a fashion show. Â Adding these fabulous Paula Cademartori ankle strap sandals, a large statement necklace from LanvinÂ and this animal print Valentino GaravaniÂ chain shoulder bag to finish this look off nicely. This outfit can also be taken into the night for a fashion cocktail event.

For a more simple, sophisticated Â look on another day, I would wear these 70’s style white flare trousers from Ellery with this stunning layered sheer blouse from Givenchy. Â Adding chandelier earrings also from Givenchy for that extra glam, black and white open toed shoes from Sophia Webster and this multi feathered hand bag from Valentino Garavani.

I can’t go past wearing a maxi skirt to fashion week. This stunner from Roksanda is my pick. Worn with this sleek wrap top from Issa. The floral embroidered boots from Valentino GaravaniÂ Â are a must with this skirt for some madness with mixing prints. The vintage style earrings from Dolce and Gabbana and embellished handbag also from Dolce and Gabbana are giving this outfit a bit of a baroque feel.

Night Event:

I would easily wear this standout floral print Giambattista Valli maxiÂ dress for an evening gala fashion event. Adding some gold, I would wear this Maison MargielaÂ long black and gold feather pendant, Â gold leaf Â sandals from Giuseppe Zanotti and Boutique Moschino gold polka dot bag for a bit of fun.
