Your 2020 New Year Work Style Guide

Hello hello,

I am excited to be bringing you my first big post of 2020 – nine New Year Work Styles inspiring you to experiment and explore with your work wardrobe and, I hope, make this the decade to do something different with your style.

Whether you like it or not clothes do the talking for you, so see them as an opportunity to reflect what’s on the inside. Ask what your choices are saying about you. Do they say that you’re the smart, interesting, talented woman that you are? Or that you’re no different to anyone else? You know how I feel about cloning. You’re not just anyone else. You’re you. Reflect that.

In this edit, I show you how you can use clothes to project a particular point of view. I’ve incorporated styles to suit most body shapes that vary from soft to metallic tones, ruffled to sleek, baroque to 40s and 50s.

And while I tend to chose some high-end labels for most of my posts, these are for inspiration, you can find beautiful equivalents all over, or for many of us, in our own wardrobes.

This year, get in touch with me to create a Powerful Personal Presence that captures your uniqueness. I offer personal one-on-one and virtual styling. There’s also my bespoke shopping service for those special pieces that transform a wardrobe from ordinary to extraordinary.

Enjoy

Trousers:

For the bold woman who is not afraid of being who she is, pair Baroque-inspired gold jacquard trousers with this almost-edible pink ruffle and pussy-bow blouse. Add a large red lip brooch at the throat and bring the colour through in the bag and pumps.

  • Gold floral jacquard trousers from Dolce & Gabbana on Farfetch
  • Pink ruffle pussy-bow blouse from Dolce & Gabbana on Farfetch
  • Large lips brooch
  • Red pumps from Scanlan Theodore
  • Red handbag from Valentino on Farfetch

Do neutrals differently by mixing whites with off-whites and a touch of black to ground the look. The tailoring of the wrap jacket beautifully offsets these modern harem pants. Combine a long gold and flower necklace with a delicate silk scarf – both interesting and chic.

Stride into work in these beautiful wide-leg gold trousers and this stunning, silk ruffle wrap blouse. Bring the whites all the way through with butterfly earrings, an animal tote and white Victoriana lace booties. A gold cuff adds to the drama.

Skirts:

This waterfall fringe layered skirt is offset beautifully by a tailored jacket in a look that is equal parts dramatic and dynamic. Pick up the green in a white graffiti tote. Platform wedges complete the look.

Here’s how today’s wise and witty wonder woman shows up in the boardroom – in an interesting blend of metallic and neutrals, with a cheeky Marilyn Monroe t-shirt peeking through a low cut vest embellished with an abstract floral brooch. Add a pop of Pink Power with these 1950s style shoes.

I love the strength of the soft leather skirt teamed with this feminine but bold polka dot blouse. It’s fun and serious at the same time. A blue tote and slingback pumps add dimension.

Dresses:This sky-blue silk dress is ultra-feminine yet sleek. The lilac tones in the amethyst necklace, silk scarf and metallic pumps create a dreamlike look, reminiscent of Jacquie O. So elegant.

  • Silk blue dress from Bernadette on Farfetch
  • Antique amethyst necklace from Simon Teakle on Moda Operandi
  • Silk scarf from Zimmerman
  • White handbag from Prada on Farfetch
  • Metallic lilac pumps from Le Silla on Farfetch
  • Gold and stone earrings from Meadowlark on Farfetch

Belt his two-toned blue lace dress with an interesting, embroidered belt and statement shoes to add edge. Continue the blues through the earrings, bag and shoes to keep the look cohesive.

Layer extravagant necklaces over this lilac blazer dress. The exquisite green bag and snakeskin pumps create a sophisticated look that oozes comfort and confidence.
